Coming from a victorious career in Brazilian and European karting, when he peaked with third place in the 2019 World Championship, Gabriel Bortoleto reached his first season in formula cars in 2020 by the front door.
The 15-year-old, representing the Brazilian academy of KTF Sports, raced in the 2020 events of the Italian F4 Championship, the most competitive in the world, using the technical structure of the Prema Power Team.
In his debut season Gabriel showed all his talent having won a victory, a second and a third place in Mugello’s races and, on the mythical Monza track, accumulated another second and a third place after beautiful recovery races.
In the 2021 season, Bortoleto pointed his career to the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine – FRECA. Previously named European F-3 the competition became an almost mandatory step for drivers with pretensions to follow the path to the F-1, which means FIA F3 and FIA F2.
Thus, in his first year in the category, competing for the Fernando Alonso’s team, Bortoleto accumulated two podiums and a lot experience.
In 2022, the Brazilian competed for the French team R-Ace GP, champion of the category in 2021. The debut took place at the end of January, when the driver participated in the F-Regional Asian, formerly F3 Asian, winning right away in his debut race at Yas Marina Speedway in Abu-Dhabi. Still in the Middle East, in preparation for the European Championship, Bortoleto competed in the Dubai race, accumulating another podium. In the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season, Bortoleto concluded the year in sixth place, with two victories and pole position in the last stage of the year, in Mugello – ITA, as highlights.
In 2023, following the natural course of his career, Bortoleto competed in the FIA F3 Championship. This category, which competes as a preliminary in 10 F1 World Championship events, opened the doors of the F1 Paddock to the Brazilian driver. In a fantastic season Gabriel led the championship from the first weekend and became Champion with a 45 point advantage over second place.
Due to his excellent results in F-3, Gabriel was invited to participate in the McLaren F-1 team’s young talent program from 2024, a season in which he will also compete in the FIA F-2 Championship – the last step in a driver’s career before of F-1.
