KTF driver is going to compete his second season in the category
The Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto, 17 years old, announced this Monday (07) that he will remain for another year on the disputes of Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine – FRECA. Different from the previous season, however, in 2022, the KTF Academy driver will take part in the races for the winning team R-Ace GP, from France.
Bortoleto, after worldwide highlight on the karting competitions, where achieved podiums in important competitions such as the World Championship, European and WSK, started his single seater career in 2020. In that year, on the Italian F4, he completed his first season with the 5th general place in the Championship, earning pole positions, wins and a few podiums
In 2021, in FRECA, Bortoleto’s first semester was adapting to the new car- much faster and more aerodynamic. In the second half of the year, although, the driver was able to show his talent, collecting good results and returning to the podium. At the end of the season, he finished fifth among the Rookies.
For 2022, Gabriel’s plans are quite ambitious. After announcing his participation in the Formula Regional Asian Championship, during the months of January and February, today the boy from São Paulo confirmed that, alongside the 2021 FRECA Champions, the French team R-Ace GP will compete for his second year in the Championship.
Thibaut de Merindol, team principal, is very excited with the Brazilian arrival. “I’ve been following Gabriel since 2019, when he was racing in go-karts, but never had the chance to collaborate with him so far. At the end of 2020, after his strong second half of the season in F4, he had been in touch to consider the 2021 FRECA season together, but unfortunately, we weren’t on the right time to make it work. This year, finally, Gabriel will be an R-Ace GP driver on FRECA 2022, and we are very anxious for that. During our winter testing in Red Bull Ring and Mugello, Gabriel was able to confirm what we thought about his speed. Besides his performance on track, we were also very pleased with his sportsmanship and integration within the team. We are convinced that we share the same values of competitiveness and team spirit. I highly believe in our collaboration with Gabriel and we intend to fight for wins and for the title”, highlighted the team principal.
“R-Ace GP is a top team and nobody doubts that having the opportunity to be their driver is amazing. Their performance in 2021 was great when they were Teams Champions and during the whole season, their car was in the top 5! We did 4 practice days of pre-season and I felt great in the car and in the relationship with the team. I can barely wait for the races to start, put everything I learned in practice and make 2022 an unforgettable year”, commented an excited Gabriel Bortoleto.
