Barcelona Circuit in Spain hosts the fifth round this weekend
Following the races in Monaco last weekend, drivers and teams of the FIA F3 Championship arrived on Thursday at the Circuit de Catalunya, near Barcelona, Spain, for the double-header of the fifth round in the annual calendar.
Leading the competition with 73 points, 17 more than the second-placed driver, Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto is highly excited for the activities that will begin on Friday (02) at the Spanish track. With full support from the Italian team Trident, the 18-year-old driver is very focused and his main challenge is to extend his advantage in the championship standings.
“After leaving Monaco, I went straight to the Trident headquarters in Italy. I spent two days in the team’s simulator, where I, along with my engineers, conducted various tests in both race pace and qualifying setups. I’m very excited because we managed to set good laps, just like we did during the tests we conducted here in April,” commented the driver of car #5.
The major change that the drivers will encounter at the Barcelona circuit this weekend is the modification of the last sector of the track. At the request of the F1 organization, the chicane that led to the pit straight was removed. This alteration, in addition to significantly increasing the speed at the end of the straight, is expected to greatly enhance the number of overtakes at the braking point of turn 1. The track now has a total length of 4.657 meters and 14 corners. The Saturday race, Sprint Race, will consist of a total of 21 laps, while the Sunday race, Feature Race, will have 25 laps. All weekend activities will be broadcasted in Brazil by BandSports.
