Championship leader wants to extend advantage in one of his favorite tracks
After almost 50 days without official activities the FIA F3 schedule will resume this weekend for the disputes of the third stage of the competition. The 30 drivers who are part of the competitive grid will face the challenges of the Autódromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, composing one of the preliminary classes of the F1 Emilia Romagna GP.
Current leader of the Championship with 58 points the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto stands out as the great name at the beginning of the season. Representing the Brazilian companies Americanet and KTF Sports, the 18-year-old won the two main races “Feature Race” on the tracks of Bahrain and Australia. With this retrospect he is motivated to expand his advantage that is currently 20 points for the second place.
In this long period without official competitions the organization of the Championship held two practice sessions being a round in Barcelona – Spain and the other exactly on this track of Imola – Italy. On both occasions, which had two days of activities on each track, Bortoleto was the fastest in one of the days.
“There’s not much to talk about right now. I’m very focused on my preparation and my Championship. The car has already proved to be very fast and reliable, however, we have eight more double rounds ahead and our main goal is to continue working in search of improving more and more”, commented the young man from São Paulo.
The Autódromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari opened in 1953 with a semi-permanent track. In 1963 it hosted its first Formula 1 race as an extra-championship race and in 1980 it became part of the world championship calendar. After some renovations, mainly of security and infrastructure, currently the circuit has 4.909 meters of extension and presents characteristics of high speed.
“My preparation in recent weeks was quite intense. We will then have three races starting now with Imola and heading to Monaco and Barcelona. We have prepared everything in a very detailed way since we left the track from Australia in early April. We will not have a chance to return to the team headquarters between the races and, with this, everything we have prepared in advance we will now put into action. I’m ready for the race, very happy with the team and the car. We have great chances of rain at the weekend and, for me, it is a great factor because I like to drive in these conditions too and the team already has a history of setup data for them. I count on the support of all and I really want to expand my advantage in the classification”, concluded the young man from team Trident.
