Motorola was founded in 1928 by brothers Paul and Joseph Galvin in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The company started as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation and produced battery eliminators for battery-operated radios.

First Products

• The first product of Motorola was a battery eliminator, which allowed radios to operate by being plugged into the wall.
• The brand’s first success was a car radio, which inspired the name Motorola.
• In 1936, Motorola began supplying the first “patrol radio” system.
• In 1943, Motorola introduced the Handie-Talkie, the first portable bidirectional FM radiocommunication system.

Mobile Phones Motorola is considered one of the pioneers in mobile phone creation. The DynaTAC 8000X, approved in the United States in 1983, is recognized as the first mobile phone in the world.

Motorola Divisions Motorola was split into two operations: Motorola Solutions, specializing in infrastructure, and Motorola Mobility, known for its smartphones.

Motorola Mobility was bought by Google in 2011 but was sold to Lenovo in 2014.
